The following description is only for the Barisal site. We are proposing to work at 3 sites, spread from the north to the south (Fig1 )

Figure 1: Location of proposed project sites of CIMMYT in Bangladesh. We will collect detailed ground truth data from Barisal and AlamDanga (formerly Chuadanga) and Dinajpur is being considered as a future site.

Typical Field Size (Area): 0.05 to 0.1 ha

Crop Types: Rice, wheat, mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.), lathyrus (Lathyrus sativus L.), maize, jute

Typical Crop Rotation: rice-rice, rice-wheat, rice-maize, rice-legume crop (2-3 crops per year)

Crop Calendar: Summer planting: July; winter planting: November to February

Climatic Zone: Sub-tropical monsoon

Soil Texture: clay-loam

Landscape Topology:  flat, delta region

Soil Drainage Class: Poor

Irrigation Infrastructure: Shallow tube wells  (mostly)

Other Site Specifications:  CIMMYT conducts many on-farm experiments in that region
