Implementation Plans

All sites have a soybean-wheat crop sequence. In each of the sites we measured biophysical parameters every 15 days:

Plans for Next Growing Season:

The project is continuing with similar objectives.  The main change is greater emphasis in modelling with assimilation of a reduced number of scenes.  We would like to incorporate more sensors to increase the temporal sampling of the sites.

Soils: depth (between 0.4 to 1 m).
Drainage class/irrigation: not irrigated, well drained with occasional poor drained zones
Crop calendar: Wheat (winter) / soybean (summer) (southern hemisphere)
Field size: around 100 has each site.
Climate and weather: Mild temperate
Agricultural methods used: Zero tillage

The latitude and longitude of each site is found in Table. Typical fields are cultivated with 2 crops (summer and winter) a year. For this purpose, we require a minimum of 6 images of this areas during the croping season.

• Winter crops: May to December.
• Summer crops: October to April.

The climatic zone is mild temperate. Soil texture is highly variable from clay to sandy loam in a landscape with undulating topography, with slopes between 1 and 5%.  Soil drainage is highly variable in the same field with frequent ocurrence of poorly drained patches. Irrigation of summer crops is not frequent and only one site during 2013 was irrigated with central pivot. Typical fields are around 100 ha at each site with no tillage.
